Pretty Plum: My New Favourite Fall Colour

Published September 24, 2014 by The Feminist

Since autumn has now officially arrived, I believe it is only fair to start talking about what to wear this fall. Whereas I would normally bombard you with different trends and micro trends, I will now stick to the essentials. Because let’s face it, there is only one thing you really need to know about the fashion for fall 2014…and for once, it is a trend that is easy to remember:

This has got to be the most beautiful colour on the planet.

So no matter whether you’re going for a gypsy look, French avant-garde chic or sporty nonchalance, it will always look 100 per cent fab if you wear it with a touch of this dark red/ deep purple plum.

Here are a couple of my favourite plummy things:

This gorgeous Giorgio Armani bag is just to die for, both figuratively (because très pretty) and financially (because très expensive).

plum tods

Or what do you think about these sandals by Tod’s? Just wear them with some opaque panties or some cute socks and you are good to go!

plum topshop shoe

Or you can go for this more affordable version at Topshop

A plum felt floppy hat is at the top of my wish list at the moment.

Plum is also a great colour for men’s clothes as well! A plum suit has got to be my favourite male look for this season, so if you guys want to get my approval (and a possible sexy glare): put on a plum suit.

plum dude

Just sayin’.

And if I would have to name one ultimate plum accessory, without a doubt, it would have to be the plum lips. Could there possibly be anything sexier than those deep red lips, looking all shiny and rich as if you’ve just drunk an entire bottle of red wine?

Every designer label has its own plum lipstick version, but if you are looking for a more affordable version: the Infallible Lipstick by L’Oreal in Persistent Plum is pretty perfect too.

But if you’re ready to go all out and spend loads of money on lipstick: buy this Bruised Plum lipstick by Tom Ford. It looks expensive, it feels expensive, it is expensive.

But hell, it makes you look like a true femme fatale meets powerful business woman, so I really don’t know why you’re not running to the shop as we speak!

Men in RED: Really Exhilarating Dudes

Published July 31, 2014 by The Feminist

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past week, you will most definitely have noticed that the official trailer for the Fifty Shades of Grey film has been launched. (and when I say “noticed”, I of course mean “watched it at least twenty times”.) It should come to no surprise that I am looking forward to its release like people in the desert look forward to rain, or like paparazzi look forward to another Bieber incident. (For once, I am actually excited about Valentine’s Day, instead of wanting to hurl into a bucket!) To honour this marvelous trailer (and the always marvelous, (almost) always shirtless Jamie Dornan in it), I wanted to dedicate a post to the clothes which I think make a guy look sexy. Admittedly, Christian Grey – as his name suggests- sticks to an array of grays and dark hues in combination with charismatic and power-exuding suits. There is definitely nothing wrong with that. (Hell, it is darn sexy!) But if it were up to me, every guy should wear red.

From classic shades such as ruby and crimson to darker berry hues and shiny blood orange tones… these fiery colours will definitely lit up a man’s wardrobe! Not to mention what it will do to my fashion-beating, sexy-dude-loving heart!

Merely thinking about a world in which all men wore red, makes my ovaries tingle… Oh my…

So dudes, please translate some of this summer’s heat into your closet, and I am sure the warmth will simmer through all the way to next winter.

Whether you opt for a head-to-toe look or go for a more nuanced outfit with one statement red item, red will always ooze power, confidence and last but not least CLASS.

So take an example of the following designers and start embracing your inner Christian Grey.

All elegance and style at Versace…

How can you not be drawn to the guy in the red suit from D&G??

Apparently Dolce & Gabbana must have gotten  reactions similar to mine to their campaign , because this is what their summer collection for 2015 looks like…

Hallelujah! If summer 2015 looks like that, we are all in a for a wild ride! 😉

“I don’t pop Molly, I rock Tom Ford”

When Jay-Z starts writing musical odes about your clothes, you just know you’re doing something right. I can only imagine how flattered Tom Ford must have been after hearing Jay-Z’s praise in a song dedicated to the designer, but on the other hand, it cannot have come as a total surprise since everything Tom Ford touches turns to gold. No scratch that. It turns into a magical world of fashionable extravaganza, in which the only rule is that there are none.

Those of you who regularly visit my little blog here, will know that I have a huge soft spot for Tom Ford Suits. Yes that’s right: Suits with a capital S, because Ford’s creations make every other suit look like a pile of garbage. He is the fashion icon par excellence; groundbreaking on every possible fashion level. Just when I thought he couldn’t get any more brilliant, he launched his FW13 campaign and needless to say… it is THE BOMB!

It is glamourous, cool, visually perfect and completely out of control. I love how he created a whole ‘cross cultural multi ethnic’ theme for his womenswear collection with a trinity of ethnicities: a black, white and Asian model. The hot pink make-up is explosive, the prints are bold and beautiful and the eyewear is drool-worthy.

And those bags! I want those bags!

Tom Ford, of course, wouldn’t be Tom Ford if he didn’t have an explosive menswear collection as well, with an even more explosive campaign! The male models are super duper sexy (woohoo!), the campaign with the guys wearing black clothes in front of a stark white background is super duper mesmerizing ( double woohoo!) and the models are wearing super duper outfits (triple woohoo!)

I hereby hope Tom Ford’s campaign will inspire all of you men (yeah, you there!) to wear a crazy-ass stylish black fur jacket this winter. Come on! You know you want to!

Turn your Date into a real Gentleman: good Manners, dashing Looks and a Tom Ford Suit

Published February 14, 2013 by The Feminist

Today is Valentine’s Day and if you happen to go on a date tonight, chances are small he will be a true gentleman. Unfortunately, the art of being a gentleman isn’t taught at university (Why not, I wonder? It would be so much more rewarding than taking English Literature 😉 ) and over the last decades men have swapped their good manners and articulate speech for swearing, beer bellies and pain-in-the-ass overconfidence.

Your date probably assumes gentlemen are pushovers. He doesn’t want to be a “Mister Nice guy”- oh no! – he wants to be a bad boy, rolling cigarettes and not caring about anyone but himself.

This is where your date is totally wrong. Being a gentleman isn’t about opening doors and saying please. It is first and foremost about respect. Respect for those around him, but also for himself, his believes and desires.

However, being a gentleman is not something you learn in a day. So if your date wasn’t a gentleman yesterday, he won’t be a gentleman tonight either. But this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. With these tips and tricks he will hopefully understand that being a gentleman is his golden ticket to a bright and sunny future. And what better day than Valentine’s Day to choose to become a more respectable man with flair and coolness, right? ( Not to mention it will spare you a lot of embarrassing situations and frustrated sighs.)

Here we go:

• Open car doors for her: Not just on Valentine’s Day. ALWAYS!

• Pay for her dinner: These are modern times we live in, I know. That doesn’t mean, however, that he shouldn’t at least pay for your god damn food. You’re a lady! You deserve it.

• Give compliments: And I’m not talking about: “Did you get a haircut?” No , women want compliments that truly mean something: “ You smell like heaven.” or “You are so unique. I’ve never met someone like you before.” Or just say something romantic: “As long as you’re with me, I don’t care where we go.”

• Wear a suit. A TOM FORD SUIT!
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT wear jeans, tank tops and sneakers on a date. A suit makes every man look incredible. It can turn a “meh” looking guy into a dashing prince! (If you watch the TV-series “Suits”, you will know what I’m talking about 😉 )

suits series
If your date has wealthy parents or a big fat bank account, a Tom Ford suit is definitely the way to go. (Anyone who watched the Grammys a couple of days ago and saw Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z’s performance, will definitely agree!)

Tom Ford brought the sexy back to Justin Timberlake by letting him wear his sharp suits in his new single “Suit & Tie”. He created the suits for Daniel Craig in Skyfall and all male actors and artists want to wear his designs. He is a true Suit God! His suits are unique, alluring, über-cool and luxurious but always have a “naughty” edge. What more can I say, if your date wears one of his suits, you will be a very very very lucky girl!

So guys, be gentlemen! Or at least buy one of these suits.
