Fur Sure: Have a Fuzzy Fall, y’all!

Published November 10, 2013 by The Feminist

No matter where you stand on the moral issues of wearing fur, you simply can no longer deny that fur is the biggest trend of this season. Whether it was dyed, striped, turned into entire coats or even Mohawk hair pieces, the omnipresence of fur on this season’s runway was sometimes overwhelming. Although I have to admit that I absolutely love the fuzzy looks the designers showed in their collections, I do strongly want to emphasize that real animal fur is a big no-no for me. I do not want to look fashionable on the back of innocent animals, and neither should you!

Fur-thermore (sorry, I couldn’t help throwing in some lame word play), faux fur alternatives are as caressingly beautiful and uniquely textured as the horrible real deal. Richness and luxury isn’t just exclusively reserved for devilish real fur-loving men and women; with the right amount of faux fur you can feel as regal as all the Cruella De Vils put together!

Just look at the faux fur pieces below and I hope you will agree that faux fur is fur ever. (I’m not biased, I’m just delightfully observant. 😉 )

Stay classic and chic during the cold winter months with this light pink faux fur cropped coat from River Island.

If you want fluffy without the murder- aspect, opt for Mongolian wool! Super warm and cozy and yet very animal friendly.

A combo of faux fur and leopard print? This coat from Zara shows it can still be classy!

Boudoir Babe: Confessions of a Lingerie Addict

“No one is going to see it, so what’s the point?” The frustration among single women can indeed be quite big when they happen to stumble upon a beautiful lingerie set , but refuse to buy it because they don’t have a partner to wear it for. If you’re one of those protesting single ladies, here is my piece of advice: Lingerie is never about him. It’s about you. Don’t ever let your single lifestyle keep you from rocking those sexy lace knickers.

At the risk of over-sharing: I happen to be a lingerie addicted single. Whereas other shopaholics might spend entire fortunes on shoes or Chanel handbags, I prefer spending my money on stuff no one but me can see. One possible explanation might be because I’m a hopeless romantic. Everything that’s dainty, refined, red, pink, lace or bejeweled has my direct attention, for it reminds me of hand-cut heart confetti and chocolate bonbons or triggers my all-time favourite fantasy of a Prince Charming on a White Horse singing emotional Bruno Mars songs just outside my bedroom window.

Another reason why I believe lingerie is the most important item in your wardrobe is because it creates self confidence. And that is why I’m truly convinced that all of you, single ladies, should have a bursting lingerie closet as well. Good lingerie makes you feel happier, sexier and more at peace with your body. Moreover, beautiful lingerie isn’t just for young and thin models. Plus sizes, older women, tall/short women, there is a pretty lingerie set for everyone!

I hereby hope I was able to convince you of the importance of lingerie, because this fall season is overflowing with romantic underwear!

One of my favourite collections is the fall collection from Andres Sarda.

My favourite affordable lingerie brand by far is the Italian boutique Intimissimi. Their lingerie is absolutely mesmerizing, but in contrast to Andres Sarda, you can buy as many items as you want because it’s not really expensive!

The collaboration between lingerie brand Etam and super model Natalia Vodianova is still drool worthy. This black lace bodysuit is simply sublime, don’t you think?!

The Thigh is the Limit: Spice up your Winter with Thigh-High Boots

Published October 22, 2013 by The Feminist

Imagine it’s winter. Snow is twirling lazily about in the wind and you’re on your way to work/school/shopping mall. You’re wearing a fabulous carmine red lipstick (preferably Dior Rouge), a black faux-fur hat (Anna Karenina-style), an off-white belted cape (look at Kerry Washington on Scandal for inspiration), black skinny jeans (the one that makes you feel like a million dollar bill) and last but definitely not least… a magnificent, provocatively beautiful pair of black suede thigh-high boots.

With an image like that in your head, it is practically impossible not to look forward to winter! The key to totally rocking the above look are the boots. Yes, the outfit would look smashing with just a pair of pumps , but it is the up-to-there (yes, there!) pair of boots that will truly make you shine. And let’s admit it: in a time in which everything is covered in a veil of darkness, it is bloody wonderful to be a sparkling light of sunshine!

Thigh-high boots were a big hit on the FW13 runway:

Balmain opted for suede versions that seemed to reach really really really high…

Chanel opted for a kinky version with chains…

Donna Karan went for sleek chic with thigh-highs in combination with an oversized jacket…

And Pucci drew the sexy card by mixing thigh-highs with an alluring stylish-but-very-short dress!

If you call yourself a fashionista, you will probably know a fashion show isn’t the actual stage where trend battles are fought. If you truly want to know which trends are hot –and which are not- you have to look to the streets.

And looking at the wardrobes- or should I say: shoerobes– of all the celebrities that have walked the streets these couple of months, it is safe to say that the thigh-high boot is here to stay.

Miranda Kerr killed it in this sublime outfit! Remember the cape-thigh highs combo from the imaginative outfit at the beginning of this post? Well, this is what I was talking about! Classy, stylish and ravishingly awesome!

Victoria Beckham opted for a kinkier version ( it was obviously still summer back then). If you want to make her outfit more wearable on a day-to-day basis, just wear some black stockings underneath the dress and you’ll be fine 😉

Kylie Minogue– here wearing fabulous Louboutin thigh-highs- demonstrates that thigh-high boots can be demure and very chic in an all-black combination with an elegant black jacket.

I know that some of you are still very skeptical of thigh-high boots. No matter how cool and utterly stylish they may be, many people still associate them with provocative S&M games or cheap hookers (think: Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman or Angelina Jolie’s naughty leather outfit in Mr. & Mrs. Smith)

It is therefore advisable not to go for the Miley Cyrus thigh-high look…

Unless you want drivers honking their horns or creepy guys waving one-dollar bills in your face…

But we’re all classy, stylish and elegant fashionistas, so –obviously!– we don’t want that.

So what do you think, ladies? Will you try the thigh-high?

Should you still need some convincing, here are some fabulous thigh-high boots that might get you running to the store.

“I don’t pop Molly, I rock Tom Ford”

Published October 12, 2013 by The Feminist

When Jay-Z starts writing musical odes about your clothes, you just know you’re doing something right. I can only imagine how flattered Tom Ford must have been after hearing Jay-Z’s praise in a song dedicated to the designer, but on the other hand, it cannot have come as a total surprise since everything Tom Ford touches turns to gold. No scratch that. It turns into a magical world of fashionable extravaganza, in which the only rule is that there are none.

Those of you who regularly visit my little blog here, will know that I have a huge soft spot for Tom Ford Suits. Yes that’s right: Suits with a capital S, because Ford’s creations make every other suit look like a pile of garbage. He is the fashion icon par excellence; groundbreaking on every possible fashion level. Just when I thought he couldn’t get any more brilliant, he launched his FW13 campaign and needless to say… it is THE BOMB!

It is glamourous, cool, visually perfect and completely out of control. I love how he created a whole ‘cross cultural multi ethnic’ theme for his womenswear collection with a trinity of ethnicities: a black, white and Asian model. The hot pink make-up is explosive, the prints are bold and beautiful and the eyewear is drool-worthy.

And those bags! I want those bags!

Tom Ford, of course, wouldn’t be Tom Ford if he didn’t have an explosive menswear collection as well, with an even more explosive campaign! The male models are super duper sexy (woohoo!), the campaign with the guys wearing black clothes in front of a stark white background is super duper mesmerizing ( double woohoo!) and the models are wearing super duper outfits (triple woohoo!)

I hereby hope Tom Ford’s campaign will inspire all of you men (yeah, you there!) to wear a crazy-ass stylish black fur jacket this winter. Come on! You know you want to!
