Shop till you drop: The shopaholic in me is alive and kickin’

I love fashion all year round. Every second of every hour of every day. There are moments, however, when my inner fashion diva goes in absolute fashion overdrive. When a very cool trend hits the runways or even when I just see a very awesome outfit online, I simply can’t stop thinking about it. I literally have dreams about it. Dreams of me wearing said awesome outfit and totally rocking it. This continuous “daydreaming” (a very euphemistic term for the scarier word “hallucination” 😉 ) will not stop until I have that outfit hanging in my closet.

I am currently going through such a fashion frenzy and the leading role in my very own Hollywood fashion movie daydream (besides a very stylish me) is the outfit above from River Island. I want it so bad, I get heart palpitations merely thinking of it.

I am a huge River Island fan. Sometimes I think this shop was created with the sole purpose of providing me with clothes.  However, there are two tiny little issues:

a)      What if my local River Island shop doesn’t have the outfit? :

I saw the clothes on the River Island website, so there is no absolute guarantee that I will actually find them in the River Island store in Antwerp. More importantly, they have to have my size! I can hear you all thinking: “ Just order them online, you idiot!”

Good point. But I prefer trying clothes on first, before buying them. (Oh God, I sound like my mother!)

b)      What if the clothes don’t fit and I look nothing like the cool chick I had in mind?

No matter how hard you may want a certain outfit, sometimes when you put it on, it just SUCKS!

So this is where you come in, dear readers! I want you all to knock on wood/ cross your fingers/ light a candle/ pray that the very cool outfit will end up in my closet! Maybe we could all do a cyber- telekinesis-séance kinda thing?  Who’s with me?! 😉

Ps: The shoes and necklace are not from River Island. It was just to give you an idea of what I would wear it with.

London Part One: The Clothes

I’m back, Ladies (and the occasional gentlemen)! I can honestly say that I had the time of my life in the City of Cities and on my return yesterday, I suddenly realized how much it sucks not to live in London and be stuck in crazy, rainy, boring Belgium!

But let’s not dwell on “what ifs” and “if onlys” and focus on my extended wardrobe instead. I’ve bought quite a lot of clothes in two days time. Especially taking into account all the cultural activities I did as well. I felt a bit of a nerd when I got over excited over a portrait of Henry VIII (What can I say? Don’t put an English student in the National Portrait Gallery!) or when I suddenly started citing Hamlet’s soliloquy (What can I say? Don’t put an English student in Shakespeare’s Globe!).

“To be or not to be, that is the question…”

Where were we again? …

Oh yes: clothes!

I’ve bought a beautiful mint flower dress (remember how much I love pastel?)

I’ve bought a very cool yellow crop jumper (remember how much I love crop tops ?)

This will be paired with a brand new SUPER HIGH WAIST skinny jeans (remember how much I loved crop tops but didn’t know how to pull off/ avoid the bare midriff? Well voila!)

londen super high waist skinny jeans

To finish the outfit: a very bright tribal necklace!

My new jeans will also go beautifully with this hot pink sheer collar shirt (remember how much I love neon AND collar tips? Two birds with one stone, ladies!)

What do you think? Are there any of my newly bought items you would like to have hanging in your closet?

It’s time to get to the gym, ladies! The bare midriff is back in style!

For those fashionistas who thought they could just sit back, relax and eat cake until spring arrived and the weather was good enough to bring out the summer wardrobe, think again: Bare midriffs are a huge trend this spring, so you better think twice before eating that second slice of sticky caramel- banana cake!

Not only designers like Marc Jacobs used glimpses of midriff in their spring collections, shops like River Island, Forever 21 and Topshop are selling crop tops as well. And let’s not forget all those stylish celebrities who are already incorporating bare midriffs in their day-to-day fashion.

This is my favourite crop top from Topshop:

Pair your crop top/blouse/jumper with a high-waisted skirt or trousers for a sophisticated look and NEVER opt for a bare bellybutton outfit! Unless you want to look like Britney Spears in her “Hit me baby one more time” period. (Which you don’t.)

I have to admit that, although I totally love this look, I haven’t yet figured out how I am actually going to wear this on a day-to-day basis. Unfortunately, God hasn’t blessed me with a sun-kissed skin like Naya Rivera, and I definitely don’t have Rihanna’s tremendous confidence. Not to mention that this look isn’t really suitable for attending classes at University. Or for a day at the office…

And Rihanna in a very cool combo of orange and purple.

On the other hand, I would really really really like to wear it! 😉

What do you think about this look, fellow fashionistas? Do you dare to bare?
