overdress to impress

Published October 1, 2012 by The Feminist

I admit that I am often shamelessly overdressed. I am a girl who likes to wear stilettos to go to the supermarket, or wears golden jeans to go to the dentist. That’s just the way I am.

Last week was the beginning of a new semester at university. Packed trams, overcrowded corridors and four flights of stairs to climb. And yet none of these things could make me wear comfi sneakers and a sweatshirt. Instead, I opted for a short leather skirt, a white blouse with a black collar and loads of jewelry. And stilettos of course. The outfit wasn’t exactly comfortable. Try walking uphill with sky high heels, meanwhile carrying a heavy purse full of school books! I could hardly keep balance, but in the end it was all worth it! Do you know why? Because being overdressed is so much fun! There will always be party-poopers claiming you look ridiculously over-the-top but don’t care about what they say or think! We women spend too much time feeling self-conscious about the way we look. It is time we start being proud of who we are and wear the clothes we want to wear.

So wear that red pencil skirt to the grocery store! Wear those leopard print pumps to school! Wear everything you want whatever the occasion. And wear it with your head held high.

If Marc Jacobs can design utterly insane, over-the-top yet oh so magical outfits, than we should be allowed to wear them. After all, who doesn’t like to spice up her life with an instant dose of drama?
